Chapter ThreeWe both looked towards the door when we heard a light knock. It was a pretty petite girl standing by the door. I smiled and Joe got up. She had brown hair, just like mine should be."What are you doing here?" Joe asked her as he hugged her. I assume they knew each other."I went to your room and you weren't there. I looked for Mary and she said you were in here." She said and then looked at me. She smiled, a real smile. "Hi, I'm Selena." She walked up to me and held out her hand. I took it and shook it."I'm Demetria, you can call me Demi though." I smiled at her."I bought you lunch Joe but I can see you're already having some." Selena pointed out with a giggle. She was sweet."I can still eat it." Joe said as she took the bag."Would you like some Demi?" Selena asked as Joe pulled out a box of pasta and garlic bread. Highly salted and fatty. I smiled back at her knowing that she didn't know had cancer."Demi, can't have this. Selena she's a cancer. This is high in sodium and fat." Joe pointed out. I needed to treat my body like a temple as people sometimes say. If I wanted the treatment to work I had to make sacrifice as my mother calls it. Selena held her hand up to her mouth. She hugged me lightly. She was so genuine."I'm so sorry Demi, I didn't realize." Selena said. I smiled."It's alright." I took a spoonful of rice. "This is what I eat everyday. No flavor food." Selena pouted."Sel, I think you should go. There's not suppose to be that many people in here." Joe insisted."Okay. I'll see you tomorrow." Selena leaned down to peck his lips. She waved goodbye and walked out."She's really nice." I mentioned to him. He shrugged. "Is she your girlfriend?" I asked taking another spoonful of rice."Kind of." I looked at him weird. He just chuckled. "It's friends with benefits." I've never been in a relationship. NO guys ever talk to me. I'm unattractive. A rush of fluid came up my throat. My gag-reflexes came in. I made a gag noise. Joe looked at me. I tried to hold it in. Where's the bucket? I gagged one more time and held it in. I don't think I can hold it any longer. Joe quickly brought up the bucket and held it to my mouth. I vomited inside. After I was done he pulled the bucket away and set it on the floor. He rubbed my back."I am so sorry." I apologized."Sorry for what? You didn't want it to happen." He said as he handed me a piece of gum. I laughed and put it in mouth."It's embarrassing." I told."That's not as embarrassing as this one time.." We began to share our most embarrassing moments to each other. We didn't hold back. It's been the most talking I've done in awhile. It felt good. He told me that when he was little, he use to pretend he was super hero and he would go to school in his cape and underwear. He then told me that one year he was trying to get at a girl, but it was only a guy dressed like a girl. I laughed so hard when he told me. It has probably been the best time I've had in a long time. He let out a long breath."I should get back to my room. It's getting pretty late and I'm sure you're parents are going to be here soon." Joe said as he got up. I nodded and he walked out. I stared at the ceiling. For the first time, I prayed to God, asking him to give me more moments like this. To be able to have real fun and leave the hospital."Demetria?" I looked towards the door. It was mother. I smiled and gestured her to come in. "Who was that boy?" She asked."Just Mary's nephew. He's real sweet." I mentioned. She nodded and kissed my forehead. "Mom?" I called."Yes sweetie." For the first time, I wanted to tell her what I want."Mom, I don't want to do this anymore." I waited for an answer. She cleared her throat."What do you mean?" She knew exactly what I meant."I don't want to fight anymore. It's my life, and I just want to spend the rest of the time I have, having fun." She shook her head."How...? Why are you giving up? When we are fighting harder then you!" My mother half-screams. I know it was hard to take in but it's true. I didn't want to fight anymore."Mother, you don't understand. I'm fighting everyday. I know I'm going to go someday. It's just a matter of time.""I won't let you." She crosses her arms."It's not your choice, mother. I have the right. When I turn 18." I mentioned. I knew it broke her heart when I said that but she really did need to know. I know my dad would wanted the best for me.Comment&Subscribe.
