The Top Ten Moves of Hisakatsu Oya
|
Kicking off the hyped top tens, starting with one of FMW's rather underrated competitors. Hisakatsu Oya got his start while training in the New Japan dojo. Upon his debut, he would find himself mainly in tag team affairs, eventually retiring in 1989 due to injury. However, that wouldn't be the end of the line for Oya, as he'd join up with the newly formed SWS promotion, which only lasted two years. He would land in FMW, and found his calling. Right away, he began making an impact. Oya would become a front runner in the title situation, but lost to Hayabusa for the FMW Brasss Knuckles Title, courtesy of Hayabusa' newly created Falcon Arrow. Forming an alliance with Tarzan Goto and Ricky Fuji, the trio became known as Lethal Weapon. After Goto's departure, The Gladiator and Horace Boulder joined the ranks, and the trio won the FMW Street Fight Six Man Tag Team Belts in 1996. They found themselves as almost a second line of defense against the fledgling Funk Masters of Wrestling faction, battling with them through the summer of 1996. However, the groud disbanded, and Gladiator and Oya both aligned with the Funk Masters. After the demise of the group, Oya shocked the FMW world, aligning himself with Hayabusa to battle Team No Respect. Oya would also gain his first pinfall victory over Hayabusa soon after. Oya remained with FMW through the final years, choosing to battle to keep FMW alive in the wake of Hayabusa's catastrophic injury. Upon its demise, Oya competed sporadically for both Osaka Pro and World Japan Pro Wrestling. Oya's style is very technical. He possesses a great deal of submission hold that serve not so much as a means to finish off his opponent, but more as a way to wear them down for the final blow. The DDT helped Oya through his initial tenure in wrestling, while the Backdrop Suplex became his most feared finishing move.
